Magi Merlin [pronounced Mahd-j-eye] calls her sound ‘Broken R&B’—a collage of Indie Pop, ’90s house, Hip-hop, and Jazz held together by masterful harmonies and lyrical depth.
She enters a new era with “POPSTAR,” a fierce single reframing fame as responsibility. The track has earned support from Clash, Ones To Watch, Exclaim!, and CBC Q, landing on the BBC 6Music playlist within a week of release.
The Montreal artist first gained acclaim for her EP GONEGIRL via Bandcamp Daily, FADER, and Nylon, leading to tours with Noga Erez and Omar Apollo. Since then, Merlin released the surprise project A Weird Little Dog while supporting saxophonist Nubya Garcia on a US tour. After flipping IDLES’ “POP POP POP” into a club banger for Glamcult TV, she hit the festival circuit (Osheaga, Montréal Jazz, Reeperbahn). Simultaneously, she made her acting debut in Mile End Kicks alongside Barbie Ferreira and Devon Bostick.
